We are now at the end of term for most people. If you have finished your year and are languishing on a drafty, wet beach known as a staycation, hooray!
Let’s think about next year. Not so much the sunny Portugal trip that got postponed this year, but how to make your life easier for next year’s study.
There are lots of things people can do to get ready for study, whether it is their first year, second or third. One is to know how you study. Out of a book, right? Not necessarily.
As Mrs Beaton would say, First catch your pigeon.
We need to start by learning how you learn. When I work with individuals, we try to find out how they work best. We think about the ideal world and forget about ‘chalk and talk’, flipped learning, blended learning and so on. How do YOU like to learn? Holed up in a cave somewhere with a candle, or in a gang with your sleeves rolled up giving a strange object a shove to see what it does?
Have a look at this link to Very Well Minds to get started on the kind of thing that we think about when I work with someone who doesn’t yet know their learning style or who is struggling. Maybe you can find out how you learn best.
Remember, we are usually a mixture of learning styles with one dominant way that we prefer.
