For those Presentation Resits.

It can feel daunting to have to do a presentation again. Worse if the person you are presenting to is the same person as before. It does not have to be.

Remember these nuggets:

The person does not want to fail you, they want to see what you can do.

You did not fail, you did not get zero. You got less than the passmark. Take the mark you got (eg 28) from the passmark (eg 40) and actually, you only need to get another 12%.

Think about everything you achieved this year. In spite of Covid. You rock, so 12% is well within your grasp.

Now, let’s think about some top tips for presentations that will get the job done.

When you do not know, say so.  Questions at the end may seem daunting, but not anymore.  Bring those questions on!  Have a phrase such as “I don’t know BUT I will find out and email you”.  Practice using it until it is easy to say.  Put it on a sticky-note so you cannot forget it during the presentation. Make sure you actually do as promised and as quickly as possible.

When you are presenting, always look between the tutors’ eyes not into them.  This way they cannot distract you or make you start wondering what they are thinking etc.

For those pesky online presentations: Put any reminders, including your killer reply to difficult questions, near the camera.  That way it looks to the tutor like you are looking straight at them, because you are looking straight at the camera.

Since the viewer cannot see your space unless you choose to show them, you can have what you want there as a comforter.  That can include a cup of tea or a tin of coke, food, the tv could be on with the sound down, your dog/cat/hamster could be with you. Your trusted friend, a parent or partner could be there – just dont get them involved in the assessment – believe me, the assessor will know. It can be as warm or as cold as you want.  You are in control.

Good luck, and let me know how you get on.
