Welcome. I’m happy to see you here.

Cathy Keenan
Experienced counsellor and mentor
I trained as a psychodynamic counsellor, although work with an integrated approach. I draw on a range of theories and perspectives according to your needs, to provide a personal and relevant approach. I have a background in Social Work and mental health, including work with people with physical disabilities.
I have worked as a generic counsellor, and in bereavement care, as well as within specialist neurodiversity services. Clients have commented that they enjoy working with me as a neurodiverse counsellor since it creates a different approach which is focused and responsive.

My Approach
I have a direct, collaborative, style which can be helpful for people who are also autistic, AuDHD, or have ADHD, and for those with learning differences such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. People who want to improve their relationship with someone who is considered divergent may find it useful to have a space to discuss their situation.
I work within the BACP ethical framework. I am also a member of UMHAN (University Mental Health Advisers Network). I am qualified to work online as well as in-person.
Finally, for more information about the team, read on.
Harry Keenan
Assistance Dog. Can be present during sessions if required.
Harry began learning when he first arrived in the world, and Temple Grandin has pointed out that dogs, cows and horses all learn in a bottom up way, by individual experiences which they have to chain together (“that’s a bed, THAT’s a bed, that’s a bed..” and so on). Harry loves the challenge of new words, tasks and puzzles.
His work with clients includes showing them how people learn, and generally creating an air of calm. He is hypo-allergenic which means he does not shed fur.
His hobbies include squeaky toys, mud, and his teddy blanket.

Paul Keenan
Manager
Paul is autistic and has chosen to self diagnose. He first realised he was autistic two years ago, but was aware of the struggles he had before this. Paul also recognises the advantages that autism affords him. Autism is both a disability and a way of life.
He studied and then taught economics, before running a successful online business centred on his area of expertise. Paul has developed an interest in philosophy and how people understand the world, which of course fits well with Autistic Counselling.
He is currently working on his own website and a book, which attempts to identify some fundamental ideas underpinning the universe. His ideas are under development, but they rock Autistic Counselling.
